Matt Leigh, otherwise known as Caveman With A Pen

“I always remember my Maths teacher telling me I would never get anywhere drawing all over my books…”

Matt Leigh

A proud Prestionian, Matt now works at The University of Central Lancashire as a Digital Designer. Working with a great bunch of people, his primary responsibility is the visual elements of the website, which includes the implementation of campaign elements, as well as creating wireframes and finalised UI concepts that are driven by the user experience. Matt also works with the brand and video production teams to create digital ads and animations.

With over 10 years in the game, he has worked for agencies such as Plain Creative and Juicy Media, and has developed skills in multiple disciplines – from coding and user experience design, to animation and motion graphics. Matt’s skills are all underpinned by a solid understanding of design thinking and processes.

Scruffy Pink Dog

A number of years ago Matt wanted to begin sharing his drawings and scribbles on instagram (a new app at the time), and came up with the name ‘Caveman With A Pen’. Having always had a passion for drawing, this was a great way for him to share his artwork in a loose and casual way.

Since then, Caveman With A Pen has grown and the style has evolved. The Caveman Corner Shop was also created, which stocks a variety of illustrated prints and items by the man himself. Matt now lives with his partner (Helen) and a cat called Colin. The pair have attended a number of craft fairs together, with Helen bringing along a colourful selection of hand-made polymer clay earrings, paired with Matt’s prints and totes. You can check out Helen’s earrings on her instagram.

Matt continues to hone his style and develop his illustrations in his spare time. Keep an eye out for new prints and goods on his Etsy.
